No Progress

Ok... so the past week has been very uneventful in terms of training. I went for a bike on the 23rd and then a run on the 24th, but I haven't really done much since then. I've been at my parents' house since Christmas day and its pretty much been raining non-stop until this afternoon. I should probably go out right now for a short run, but I'm not really into it. To top it all off, I've had a lingering cold and cough for the past week. Anyway, I'm hoping to be back on the training track soon.

Today's Workout

Took my bike out for the first time. Rode for about 30 minutes on the Los Gatos Creek Trail. I was nice and sweaty by the time I got back. I guess that means I did something right :) Still trying to figure out the gear shifting so my cadence (rpm) can be more consistent. (It actually sounds like I know what I'm talking about) :)

New Bike

I just decided to go for it. Merry Christmas to me :) and goodbye to any extra perks for the next month or so. It's a pretty bike, don't ya think? I'm planning on taking it out tomorrow morning for an initiation ride. Although, I should probably get my helmet fixed first. The first ride may have to wait.

Bummer

I took my bike in to get fixed and was told that it is damaged beyond repair. The frame is visibly bent and is cracked down by the gears. This means I must either find a hand-me-down bike that fits me or I will need to splurge and buy a new one. Not the best news at this time of year when finances are tight, but I'll make it happen. Anyone out there have a bike that will fit my 5'1" frame?? Anyway, I'm gonna try and give the moving company a call and see if they will pay to replace my bike. The bike shop said it would cost $240 to replace it, but I'm thinking about upgrading to a bike that has some shocks. But I'm not sure the movers will pay, since its been 6 months since they dropped off my stuff. We shall see.

Today's Workout

15 min on stationary bike, 8.7 miles
10 min continuous (for the most part) swimming (freestyle), 18 laps
4 laps butterfly kick

Twas a good workout. I feel good. But I'm going to have to find a setting for the bike that is comfortable for someone like me with my little legs. I'm gonna look into taking a spinning class. Speaking of bicycles... I'm gonna take mine into the shop today to see how much its gonna cost to get it in good working shape. I may end up buying a new one if it costs too much. We shall see.

Slow Start

So, the past couple of days have not been very conducive to working out. It rained non-stop Friday night through Sunday night. And to make things even more interesting, I am trying to fight off a cold. I am planning on going to the gym a little later on today. Hopefully that won't hurt my healing factor. Anyway, not much else to report at this point.

Today's Workout

Walk/Jog - 30 minutes
100 situps
20 pushups

This is my first workout in preparation for training (which begins on Feb. 2). I did a lot more walking than jogging and I found that I am terribly out of shape. This triathlon is going to force me to push myself to my limits, and I hope I'm up for that. But that is why I am doing this with TNT. I am looking foward to having the support of this group to keep me excited and motivated about this intense goal.

It has begun

Last night I went to a meeting about Team in Training. I thought I would go and check it out. See if it is something that I might be interested in doing. After a short presentation and some Q&A I decided to sign on the dotted line. As a team member I am making a commitment to raise at least $2,900 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The race I will be training for will an Olympic length triathlon at Wildflower. This journal has been set up in order to keep myself honest in my training schedule and to keep others up to date on the status of my fundraising. I hope you check back often to see how things are going. Please keep me and the rest of the team in your prayers as we train over the next several months.
